Frequently Asked Questions

Fly into Hobart, grab your hire car from the airport, and meet us at the agreed airport pickup point.
Hand over your bagged bikes, chuck yourselves and your luggage into the rental car, and head for Maydena.
We transport the bikes separately and meet you at the other end at your Airbnb or campground.
You get the freedom of a hire car without trying to Tetris four mountain bikes into a hatchback.
-
Because once you’re in Maydena, having a car is extremely useful.
Maydena is a very small town, and Tasmania is spread out. A rental car gives you freedom for groceries, food, sightseeing, airport runs and everything else you decide to do.
The problem isn’t transporting you.
The problem is fitting you, your mates, luggage and four mountain bikes into the same rental car.
That’s the bit we solve.
With Maydena Bike Transport, you can rent whatever cheap little car suits your group and use it for the rest of the trip.Go shopping. Get food. Explore Tassie. Leave when you want. Come back when you want.
Your bikes get transported separately, while your rental car stays useful for the entire holiday.
-
No.
Bikes, luggage and cycling gear only.
You travel separately in your own hire car or other transport.
That keeps the service simple and lets your group travel on your own schedule.
-
Yes. Absolutely.
All bikes must be packed and ready in a suitable bike travel bag before pickup.
Loose or fully assembled bikes may be refused unless we have specifically agreed to transport them beforehand.
Bag it. Hand it over. Easy.
-
Standard bookings are for up to four bikes.
One bike, two bikes, four bikes — the transport slot is yours.
If you're travelling with a larger group, contact us before booking and we’ll see what we can arrange.
-
Only as much as your bike bag requires.
Most travel bags require some combination of wheels, pedals, handlebars or other parts to be removed.
Your bike needs to be completely packed and ready to go before pickup.
We don't want to be standing at the airport watching Kevin discover he needs a pedal spanner.
-
Yep, provided they're safely packed and suitable for transport.
Let us know when booking that you're bringing an e-bike.
Damaged, swollen, leaking or otherwise dodgy-looking batteries won't be transported.
-
Our main service runs between Hobart Airport and Maydena.
Your booking confirmation will show the agreed pickup time and location.
For airport pickups, have your bikes packed and ready so you can hand them over and get on with your trip.
-
Tell us as soon as you know.
Flights, traffic and Tassie weather sometimes do their thing. We'll make reasonable efforts to work around delays where possible, but significant delays may require moving your bikes to another available run.
-
Welcome to Tasmania.
Normal rain and ordinary Tassie weather generally aren't a problem, but we won't run if road or weather conditions make the trip unsafe.
If we have to cancel or significantly change a service, we'll contact you and organise the appropriate alternative.
-
Nope.
The service works for anyone who needs bikes moved between Hobart and Maydena.
Flying in with a hire car is just where it makes a ridiculous amount of sense — particularly for groups travelling with several large mountain bikes.
-
Basically:
You rent a normal car instead of finding something enormous enough for four people, luggage and bikes.
You keep your independence for the whole trip.
We deal with the awkward giant bike bags.
You drive to Maydena like normal human beings.
Book it. Bag it. Send it. Ride it.
